Tiffany’s story

Hope is the belief that your future will be better than the present and that you will have the ability to make it happen. For many Bridge of Hope families, hope is found in neighboring relationships that have a transformative effect on their lives.

Tiffany and her 5-year-old daughter, Violet, were facing homelessness when they could no longer stay in their unsafe apartment with a lead paint issue. She heard about Bridge of Hope through another local ministry and reached out, hoping to find a place to live that she could afford and where she could continue current supports for her daughter who has special needs.

“I was looking for hope,Tiffany said. “I needed some help and guidance to have a place to live that would be safe for my daughter.”

Tiffany wanted to stay in their current school district because she knew the school would be good at handling Violet’s needs. But a new place to live was difficult to find with barriers, like a low credit score and income below what most landlords require. She eventually found housing in the district through a Bridge of Hope landlord partner!

When friends from Tiffany’s church heard that they could support and walk alongside her, they formed her group of Neighboring Volunteers. They offered prayer, checked in to see how she was doing, and threw a birthday party for Violet. Their love and care also included bringing Tiffany and Violet some food and supplies when the two of them were sick.

Eventually, Tiffany started a new job as a school paraprofessional that she loves, and soon hopes to pursue a social work degree. But her car wasn’t functioning, which was a major issue for the family in getting to school, work and church. It was through the generosity of a Bridge of Hope donor that she received a car to address her day-to-day transportation needs.

“It’s great not to have to worry so much. Now we have safe housing. It has eased my mind so that I can focus on getting Violet the support she needs.”

In all of that, Tiffany says she found the hope she was looking for! Reflecting on how much her confidence has grown, she added, “Bridge of Hope helped me believe in myself again.”
