I Have a Way of Getting Lost:  A Poem for Lent

March 12, 2020

I have a way of getting lost.
Lost in the tangle of my thoughts.
Lost in my heavy emotions.
Lost in the frustrations of parenting.
Lost in the endless scrolling on social media.
Lost in my own struggles that I cannot see outside of myself.
Lost to the point of paralysis.
Lost for a moment or an hour or a day or more.

But I know the way home.
It is through stillness.
It is through silence.
It is through spaciousness.
It is through surrendering control.
It is through listening and feeling and being in the presence of God.
It is through the One.
It is through Love.

For all of us, whether we are neighboring a family facing homelessness, feeling lost in the COVID-19 anxiety, or feeling the heaviness of life, may this poem invite us back into the presence of God. Through Love.
