What if the solution to family homelessness isn’t just possible – but already happening? Across the Bridge of Hope network, bold housing strategies are transforming the landscape for single-parent families seeking safety and stability.

Across the country, families are struggling under rising rents, inflation, and economic uncertainty. For single parents already juggling transportation, childcare, and daily essentials, the barrier to safe, affordable housing can feel insurmountable. At Bridge of Hope, we believe no family should face this alone – and we’re taking action to change the story.

Housing Families Faster Than Ever

In the first year of our three-year strategic plan, the average time it takes to house a family dropped from 63 days in 2023–24 to just 50 days in 2024–25 – our fastest since the pandemic intensified the affordable housing crisis.

This progress is fueled by seven innovative strategies introduced in 2023, including:

  • A 45% increase in local landlord partners, expanding housing options for families
  • Master leasing to quickly secure units for families with higher barriers
  • Lease guarantor agreements that give landlords confidence, with most families renewing independently in year two
  • A 20% increase in rental assistance to match rising housing costs
  • Church property partnerships now active in three locations
  • Three Bridge of Hope affiliates now own a combined nine units of property, which provide affordable, long-term housing.
  • Together, these efforts move families more quickly from homelessness to hope.

Investing in Homes, Securing Stability

One of our most transformative strategies is acquiring and renovating homes. In partnership with Bridge of Hope Inc. subsidiaries, we now own eight properties in Lancaster and Chester Counties – each offering a safe, stable home for a single-parent family rebuilding their lives.

Located in school districts such as Manheim Central, Warwick, Pequea Valley, Conestoga Valley, Downingtown, and West Chester, these homes reflect the power of community partnership. A recent example: in May 2025, Christ’s Home offered us a duplex in Paradise, PA before listing it publicly – expanding our reach into a high‑cost, low‑vacancy area.

And momentum continues. Conversations with a couple interested in donating a home in the Conestoga Valley School District opened the door to our newest opportunity. We recently settled on the Conestoga Valley School District property, a near move‑in–ready home that will soon welcome a family in a community where affordable housing remains scarce. This timely addition expands our long‑term capacity to provide safety and stability to families who need it most.

Building the Future: The Bridgeport Project

In Lancaster County, the upcoming Bridgeport Project marks a new frontier in innovative housing. In collaboration with Chestnut Housing, Forest Hills Mennonite Church, Conestoga Valley SEEDS, and Bridge of Hope Lancaster, this initiative will renovate a historic home and garage and create 12–15 new housing units by 2027–28.

Located in the Conestoga Valley School District – where 172 children experienced homelessness during the 2023–24 school year – this project directly responds to urgent need.

Innovation Across the Network

Bridge of Hope’s commitment to housing solutions extends far beyond Pennsylvania:

  • Bloomington, IL: Bridge of Hope @Home Sweet Home Ministries broke ground in Summer 2025 on The Bridge Shelter Village, a community of 48 tiny homes designed to offer warmth, dignity, and a path forward. The first cabins are already rising – set to welcome families before winter.
  • Harrisonburg, VA: Bridge of Hope Harrisonburg-Rockingham launched the Building Stability, Creating Home campaign to construct four new townhomes in response to rising rents and increasing family needs.

A Call to Action

The affordable housing crisis is a moral challenge – and the Body of Christ is called to respond. Bridge of Hope is leading with bold, innovative solutions, but we cannot do this alone. Join us. Donate. Partner. Volunteer. Together, we can build more than housing. We can build hope.
