Every parent and child facing homelessness deserves a stable place to live, a home to return to at the end of the day.Nearly three years ago, we launched the Making Room Campaign with a bold hope: to strengthen housing and mental health support for families facing homelessness and to help more Bridge of Hope communities grow across the country. Since then, rental housing costs have continued to rise, and family homelessness increased by 39% this past year alone. The need keeps pressing us to try to do more.Because of the growing need, we’ve set a new campaign stretch goal of $9.3 million, up from our original $8.4 million goal. Will you help us cross the finish line?Give. An important step in achieving housing stability through Bridge of Hope is that families are able to increase their income. To help parents accomplish their employment goals, we have a partnership with Soyica White to provide them with one-on-one career exploration and coaching. Parthenia received coaching from Soyica and was able to move up in her career, including receiving a pay increase! Soyica says his approach is to meet people where they are. “[Bridge of Hope participants] are ready for change, which makes my job easier,” he said.

Parthenia and her five children were facing homelessness after a water leak in their apartment made it uninhabitable, so she reached out to Bridge of Hope. Through Bridge of Hope, she found new housing, met with a career counselor, became a certified CPR instructor, and experienced love and support from her group of Neighboring Volunteers. Inspired by the support that she’s received in the past, Parthenia now feels comfortable reaching out and paying it forward. “I have been blessed and now I can open my door to help others,” Parthenia said.

A year ago, Ayanna and 4-year-old Raymond spiraled into a world of unknowns. A broken relationship raised many questions. Where would they live? Who would hire her? How could she provide for her son with special needs while working? Today, Ayanna has experienced the love of strangers in life-transforming ways. Her Neighboring Volunteers have been very present with her, showing up on move-in day, helping her settle into her new home and being present when things were difficult. “Strangers can love you,” she said. “They have changed my life.”
