Celebrating Ms. Jacki McKinney

February 16, 2022

This Black History Month, it’s important to give recognition beyond infamous Black pioneers such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and Rose Parks. Others, such as Ms. Jacki McKinney have left an imprint not only on the Black culture, but also in the world of advocating for those that have struggled with mental health, trauma, and substance abuse. Ms. McKinney showed the world that resiliency sees no color as she personally fought through homelessness, systemic racism, oppression, and trauma.

At Bridge of Hope we remind our Neighboring Families that resiliency is possible despite barriers that may seem unmovable. Ms. McKinney did impeccable work advocating for those that often feel voiceless, which led her to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration’s Voice Awards program. Ms. Jacki McKinney has done work that we should not only be grateful for this month, but every day.
