A Church-Based Approach to Ending Family Homelessness

Phil Olson Legacy Fund for Engaging Churches in Ending Homelessness

We celebrate and say goodbye to Phil Olson, Board member (2005-2011 and 2015-2017), who passed into eternity in the arms of Jesus on August 28, 2017.  Our thoughts and prayer are with his wife Holly, daughter Lizzy, son Derrick and the whole family.

On July 12, 2017, the board of directors of Bridge of Hope National unanimously endorsed the creation of the Phil Olson Legacy Fund for Engaging Churches in Ending Homelessness in honor of Phil’s work with and his commitment to Bridge of Hope for more than a decade.

To make a gift, go to Donate Now, and mention Phil’s name in the notes section when making a gift.

Reverend Philip Olson served for 8 years on the National Board of Directors (2005-2011 and 2015-2017) and was instrumental in launching Bridge of Hope in Burlington County and southern New Jersey.  Pastor Phil also served, with his congregation at Church on the Mall, in mentoring a family through Bridge of Hope BuxMont.  Over the past decade, Phil has been an avid ambassador for Bridge of Hope across the country, to other pastors and churches and in all his spheres of influence.

Phil’s commitment to helping the people of God live out their call to social justice on behalf of homeless families has brought hope and healing to many families served by Bridge of Hope.

In honor of Phil’s significant legacy to Bridge of Hope, the goal of this fund is to raise at least $25,000 to expand and innovate the ministry of Bridge of Hope through the Strangers to Neighbors $1 million initiative.  Your gift will support elevated programming and new services relevant for homeless families and church volunteers today.

Phil’s joy, humor, and commitment to God’s call to the work of social justice has shone forth in so many ways over the past dozen years (see photos above).  Story after story at Bridge of Hope demonstrates Phil’s impact:  His words of wisdom that were just what we needed in the moment of decision by the board, a devotional that Phil shared from Luke 5:4-10 at a pivotal vision moment for our board, Phil’s role in a homeless simulation as a “trouble-maker” (see photos above!), Phil’s annual “day in the office as the executive director” (treating the staff to ice cream), and much more.  Our hearts are full of gratitude to God for all that Phil has brought to the work of Bridge of Hope these past 12 years!

A special thanks to the following people who have already made a gift toward the $25,000 goal for this fund.  As of November 10, 2017, $25,375 has been contributed by the following individuals:
